Sometimes I just don't feel like writing.

Not because I have no news, or fear losing my 12 readers to the same old same old; but because I know I lack the skills to bring a real story to life in any meaningful way.

Take today for instance - Hunny Bunny and I went out rollerblading today - there's a trail that runs along the Humber River for about 8 kms, making it an hour long run if you do the full circuit (which we didn't - we've both been to slothful over the winter to even think we can do this yet).

I want to be able to tell you how wonderful it was seeing the first blush of green in the trees after months of only grey and brown, and how the river was running fast and full, but had been running faster and fuller recently judging by the looks of the grasses on the banks.

I wish I could describe how glorious it felt to be out in the sunshine; to hear the songs of red-winged blackbird, sparrows, seagulls and goldfinches over the deep gurgle of the river; to exercise and stretch muscles far too used to doing nothing. How I forgot my headache in the surprise gift of seeing two deer in the brush between us and the river. How Keith made me laugh when I asked what he was doing when he raised his hand and made wagging motions with his fingers at the planes as they passed over our heads on their descent into the airport (he was tickling their bellies). How the smell of the grove of poplar trees we passed made me think of my home when I was younger, where the soft clattering of the poplar leaves was a backdrop to many lazy summer afternoons in the yard.

But I'm always afraid it sounds so blah when I relate it...like grocery list. Went skating. Saw birds and deer. It was pretty.

So I think I'm going to take some classes over the summer, so I can learn to write real good.

Poker was pretty damn good today.

I made it in time for the Brit Bloggerment, which is a very lively game. The chat can be a bit wild with expressions and acronyms I'm not used to and many of the references that escape me. It seemed a bit surreal for for a while and I couldn't quite put my finger on why until it dawned on me - I'm so used to the chats with the US blogger crew, that it throws me when I see words like colour, rumour and flavour spelled properly with the "u". *grin.

I have not had a good track record with this game....sitting out, bubbling, gigli-ing. I managed to get my stubborn on, and made it to third place and ITM. Wheeee!

I hit the Blogger Bracelet game, and had a number of successes by my personal yardstick: busted Fuel, made Iakaris fold, and made the top quarter of the field.

So it's 10pm, I've really done nothing I should have over the weekend, not even my laundry - I shudder at the thought of trying to pick out something to wear to school tomorrow.

But fuck it. I had a good weekend. How was yours?

I don't even think I was drunk at the time

God, I'm such an idiot. Apparently I fucked up the password for the Donkament tonight.

Just file it under "senior's moment". One good thing about getting older is having something to blame the clueless moments on.

Cheers to InGoal and on_thg for figuring it out. And my humble apologies to everyone else. Hope to see you next week.

poker shirt for donks

I like this. I could give them out at each and every poker game I play. Do you think I'd get a decent discount if I bought a gross of these, do you suppose?

What kind of poker blogger are you?

An amusing little quiz, brought to you from The Cloud's poker blog.

I scored mostly B's. But in every question I could name at least 3 bloggers who were in the C category.

Enjoy.

humpday mishmash

First of all, here's a big ole public congratulations to the Martini Goddess for landing a new and challenging job!!!

Yay, babes!! Hope to venture that way soon; I'll bring the samosas if you mix the 'tinis *grin.

****

And while I'm thinking of drinks and drinking, here's something that had me laughing so hard coffee just about came out my nose. God, I love Tiki Bar TV....wish there were more episodes!

Yes, I played Bunnies, while in high school. It was definitely more of a giggle than Caps. Especially if you played Strip Bunnies *grin.

The regular Friday night meeting of Donkaholics Anonymous has been arranged:

Friday Night Blogger Donkament
Full Tilt, 9 EST
$1 + 1 Rebuy

It's Hunny Bunny's birthday, so I doubt I'll be there. Unless he's working, in which case I *will* be there.

In other pimping news, don't forget this:

****

Plans for Vegas in June may have to be shelved. Fuck.

Dropped my glasses and broke the rims, so I have to get them replaced. I've been stalling on getting my eyes tested, even though I know I've needed to for about 2 years.

The equation is looking something like this:

eye exam
+ new frames (and they must be sexy; I am too vain for icky-ness)
+ new lenses ( dear god, not, not......bifocals!!!! noooooooooooooo!)
- what my insurance will cover
-------------------------------
= the amount that comes out of my fragile disposable income account

Fuck.

And once more, with feeling: FUCK.

****

Just busted out of the Mookie in 54th of 73. How? I dunno - my beloved chose that moment to rant to me about his POS laptop. I tried to split my attention between both him and the game with poor results; he's more PO'd coz I wasn't really being attentive, and I'm PO'd coz I was distracted in a good hand.

Don't know why I'm so pissed off - it's not like I'm running all that well on the poker front anyway and I'd just end up going out in some blaze of donkery or another.

****

Work is hell right now, as it always is. Every single teacher has suddenly looked at the calendar and said "Oh, shit!"; everyone is scrambling to get through their curriculum by the end of the term and in time for exams starting June 5th.

The kids are stressed and whining about the workload; the teachers are stressed and whining about the workload; the principals are just trying to stay out of everyone's way.

We were talking and joking in the teacher's workroom today, and one of the new teachers made an off-the-cuff and facetious remark about keeping a bottle in our desks. We laughed, but when she left the room, four of us looked at each other and went "hmmm.....".

I'm relieving some stress by shopping; I found out that I have more money left in my budget (I thought I had $x, turns out I had $x times 3) and am spending it before I lose it. Of course, once all the new equipment comes in, it'll ramp up the stress as I will take time away from marking and other things I should be doing in order to play around with the new technology.

****

I'm playing a bit less poker, mainly because it does not really help me deal with the stress level, as evidenced by the number of times I've used the work "fuck" in all it's known variants (and some new ones) while both playing and writing about poker.

But I am getting lots of knitting done. Sweater From Hell is about 3 hours away from being as done as I'm willing to make it. I'm going to pay someone to put the zipper in because I'm afraid I'll a) fuck it all up after all that work, b) take a knife to it in a fit of rage, or c) both.

And speaking of knitting, I'm going to order me some of this: silk-wrapped stainless steel yarn. Yes, I realize that no one else but a knitter will think that it's cool.

****

I have ridden the new bike every day that I possibly could, and loving it more each time. I trust it more than I did my last one. I'm leaning deeper into the curves, and can only grin at that flutter in my stomach that means I've successfully ridden that thin line between up and down, and stayed on the up side.

Down is bad. Very bad.

There are some biker saying that echoes in my head periodically: There are two kinds of riders: those that have gone down, and those that will go down.

I'd like to delay down as long as possible. Hopefully indefinitely.

The other saying I like is: no matter the weather, always wear leather. Like I need an excuse to wear leather.

A friend sent me this as an e-card. I do like the sentiment. A lot.

paraphrasing an old joke

What do you call 100 dead donkeys at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start.

****

I know I want donkeys to keep playing crap. Eventually I reap the benefits of their idiotic chases and moronic play.

Just not tonight apparently.

Fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Monday.

I'm bored as I have all the little horrors busily working on creating a flyer in InDesign.

So I did this:

Create Your Own PaloozaHead - Visit Lollapalooza.com

Yes, a bored mind truly is a dangerous thing.

Does this bike my butt look fast?

Here's an actual shot of the new bike, taken yesterday after going rollerblading; my blades fit in the hardcases and life is good. Yes, it was a gorgeous day here in the formerly frozen North, sunny and 25 degrees (80F).

T'was the same again today with the added bonus of a day off for Hunny Bunny, so we took off and cruised around the countryside. We rode through small hamlets and villages with names like Zephyr and Utopia, and slowed through Goodwood as we passed a small, shady cemetery that was completed carpeted in purple violets. The church beside it had one of those signs with the interchangeable letters that read:
"Laying in bed on Sunday morning and shouting "Oh God" does not constitute going to church."
Indeed, lol.

Welcome to Donkaholics Anonymous

TripJax: my wawfuls vision is blurry
Acornman: the way of the wawful
Acornman: doesnt call himself a madman for nothing

It was much fun; hope to break 100 rebuys next week!

****

And for those that celebrated 420 - here's something nice and trippy for ya!

Ya know.....I *was* going to unregister from the Riverchasers game tonight. Bad day and a reaction from dinner (damn you, new Japanese restaurant! I told you I was allergic to avocado!!) means I'm not an especially happy camper at the moment.

But no, I stayed in, and played like a total n00b; out in 20 minutes when my 99 proves to be less than AA.

Who knew, eh? *grin.

So I'm heading to bed to read Book Two in the Tales of the Otori and drift off to sleep as soon as my system lets me.

Don't forget, tomorrow night is the Blogger Donkament $1+1 rebuy on Tilt at 9 EST, password donkarama. Last week we had an average of 4.42 rebuys per player, and I seriously doubt that number will go down this week *grin.

See ya then! (and no this isn't some lame-ass tag line like all the poofters are so effing fond of. So, so ghey.)

It ain't much, but it feels like a million bucks:

GG everyone, and we'll see you at the Mookie tomorrow!

This has been a awesome day!

I rode my new bike today, I could not wait anymore. The forecast called for showers, but not a drop was felt.

How's the ride on the new wheels, you ask? Suh-weeet; powerful, smooth, sleek and sassy. Can't wait for summer!

And speaking of summer, it's now confirmed.... I am heading to both the WPBT in June and Okie-Vegas in July!!

Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!

The countdown begins ....

Sometimes the awfukkit moments pay off:

Art vs. Activism?

I don't know what to make of this. I can't even think that it's cool or interesting or arty.

This is from a show last year by artist Theresa Honeywell and was displayed at the Georgia Museum of Art. The blurb goes "Honeywell's work explores the cool tough male world with her pieces like the knit tool belt, knit jackammer, as well as embroidery work of tattoo designs."

All I can think of is that there are two objects here that are not fulfilling their purpose. The bike cannot be ridden. And what a phenomenal waste of time and yarn, that could be better used to create things like preemie wear for hospitals, blankets for animal shelters, and warm hats/scarves/mitts for the homeless.

Is there a statement here that I'm missing? I mean, I get the statement in this one:

And it was made by many, with scraps from other projects. And I believe the modular pieces were recycled after as scarves.

I really don't know where I'm going with this post. It got me thinking about why one irritates me and the other doesn't.

Sure beats thinking about poker right now.

well that was ... fun*

Or it would be fun, if the meaning of the word "fun" had suddenly been transmogrified to mean the exact opposite; let's say, like the fun of having one's nipples ripped off with rusty pliers.

OK, that may be a touch extreme. But I'm ... miffed. Where the word "miffed" has been transmogrified to mean so pissed that one shouts the word "fuck!" 328 times in a 5 minute period, scaring the cat and making the neighbours grumble.

Yes that's right. Third hand.

OMFG I suck. Al plays better poker drunk than I ever will.

Sigh.

Edit: I did Al a disservice as he was playing sober. And I've since de-tilted, and the grapes are not quite as sour as they were last night. But I still suck.

****

Oh and how did I do in the BritBlogger donkament? Out first.

This has not been a good weekend MTT-wise. Good thing my cash game is improving so I can afford all this fucking donkitude.

uncharacteristic activity

I woke up this morning and felt bright-eyed and bushy tailed.

I'll pause a moment to let that sink in.

I know, it's odd, isn't it? Not the first part of the statement; I do that every morning. Well, not every morning...sometimes it's afternoon.

The "bright-eyed and bushy tailed" part that implies alertness is, well, most uncharacteristic. Especially for me upon waking. And at 7:30 am to boot.

And it gets weirder. It's now noon and I have
  • done laundry
  • cleaned the fridge
  • prepared a turkey and put it in the oven (they were on sale post-Easter)
  • painted my toenails (Espresso Your Style by OPI)
  • created a quiz on Excel for the grade 9's (Monday morning pop quiz...god I'm evil *grin)
  • been completely and entirely unsuccessful in obtaining a token for tonight's Big Game. Full Tilt has not loved me for the past 36-ish hours; and the feeling has been mutual for the last 4 hours.
I KNOW! All this activity from me AND on a Sunday morning no less. Hunny Bunny keeps looking at me with an expression I can only describe as half bemusement / half waiting for the rest of the Apocalypse to arrive.

But frankly I'm sitting here wondering what the hell do I do with the rest of my day?

****

Later, around 4:15.

The turkey was perfection. I love roast turkey with gravy and cranberry...so yummy!

However, my performance in the BritBlogger game not quite so yummy. Out first and right quick too. My AQd failed to flush and proved no match for Rosie's Big Slick. The last 160 chips were donked off when 77 paled next to trip Q's.

Donkament recap

Blogger Donkament #2:

19 runners.
87 rebuys.
18 add-ons.
Total pot = $124

Silly. Absolutely silly. But fun as hell, especially after a rather meh week. And I can't believe the guys overseas who played from a vastly different time zone - now that's dedication. Or something *grin.

About a half hour in I added a prize for the tourneys - whoever buys in the most will get their buyin covered for next week (well actually for 2.5 weeks as $5 is the minumum I can transfer on Tilt). Our lucky (?) winner for this week was my neighbour across the lake, VinNay.

The chats were hilarious. I wish I could remember more, esp. the UK guys typing with the scottish accents. Here's a few that I managed to grab:
VinNay: yeah, great - $18 into a $1 tourney
Alf Eleven: lol dedication
BigSlickNut: so coming in 3rd right now is a loss!
Pokerwoolf: I am a donk in rock's clothing.
SirFWalgman: I wanna take out wolf
Pokerwoolf: bring it Eggos

Highlights:

Waffles taking out TripJax with...trip jacks.

Many, many hammers. BuddyDank announced his by betting $272. the best one, by far, was this one:

Congrats to PokerWolf for taking it down. And I mean taking it down. He took out all of the last 5 players in 14 hands.

Fourteen hands. Effing card rack.

Kudos to BuddyDank and PokerEnthusiast for making the cash as well.

****

Smokkee was the astute individual who guessed that the quote in the last post was from Waffles. What site do you want the $11 transferred to?

two things

One:
It's raining, I'm tired and just slightly bored. So to liven things up here's a wee contest for you...I'll send $11 (good for a Mookie or a donkariffic time in the $1 rebuy) to the first one who correctly guesses what blogger said the following to me today:

"I'm happy that things in this world can make people happy"
Hint: It's a blogger who is not usually known for the warm and fuzzies.

Two:
There are a pantload of games coming up:

Friday Night Blogger Donkament
Full Tilt, at 9pm EST
$1+1 REBUY NLHE
password = donkarama

The BritBloggerment on Sunday
PokerStars, at 4 EST
$5.50 NLHE
password = donkament

The Blogger Big Game later on Sunday (worth BBT Points)
Full Tilt Poker, at
9:30pm ET
$69+6 or token NLHE
Password = donkey

****

PS: I know it's the polite thing to say 'gg" to folks after they bust out of the tourney, but frankly if I bust out for being weak and stupid, then I'd rather you didn't say it, coz it wasn't.

OK? OK. :-)

If it's tuesday...

...then it's WWdN night.

I was going to live blog it; and I'm just as happy I didn't - the blogosphere does need yet another tale of mediocrity.

But I did sign up for the Ssecond chance, thinking to chat with pals and slowly donk away my chips into the wee hours (had a nap today...what else am I gonna do tonight?). Was "seated" at the table to find only Budo. What the .... HU? Oh dagnabbit! Unlike the Queen of HU, I am not a big fan of it.

It took me precisely two hands to lose my 1500 to Budo. I almost felt sorry for the guy, who then had to wait until everyone else finished.

I was playing a $10+1 180 on Stars at the same time, and the poker gods decided to smile on me there - I got quads 3x, and high pocket pairs (that held up, mostly) just about every other orbit. And after four hours, I'm out third when I foolishly min. raise my AA in the SB, allowing BB with his ducks to catch a set.

****

Don't forget, there's the Mookie tomorrow night. Would anyone be interested in a Stars - Full Tilt swap? Like a donkey, I transferred some $ out of Tilt then proceeded to ... redistribute the rest.

****

I've set up another Friday Night Blogger Donkament on Tilt at 9pm EST. It's another $1+1 rebuy - it's cheap and fun and, unlike so many other things that are cheap and fun, lasts for a long, long time. Unless you're Slb, of course *grin.

Friday Night Blogger Donkament
Full Tilt, at 9pm EST
$1+1 REBUY NLHE
password = donkarama

Well folks, I do hope that you have a nice Easter if you believe in that sort of thing and a pleasant Sunday if you don't.

I'll be spending the day poker-less as I'll be the dutiful daughter-in-law and will be spending the day with my in-laws. Yep, I'm a lucky, lucky girl.

I'll be getting lots of knitting done though- I'm currently making a sexy little shrug to wear when spending the day in too-chilly poker rooms. And IG, we can get together anytime for a Stitch and (poker) Bitch *grin.

So have a great day - and don't forget about the BritBloggerment on PokerStars tomorrow at 4:30 EST, password donkament. I'm tempted to buyin just to see how far I can get again without playing.

I'm pretty sure it'll be farther than if I actually sat and played.

Gettin' my donk on...

Tonight was the Friday Night Blogger Donkament.

17 players + 70 rebuys + 17 addons + 3-ish hours = a fun way to start a weekend.

Best Line of the Night Award goes to Garth for this exchange:

garthski: 9pm Eastern on FT. 1+1 rebuy
JoeSpeake: with Canadian money?
garthski: I think so. It keeps saying "rebuy? 0.68"

Thanks to all for playing; commiserations to slb for being tonights Gigli and congrats to Trip Jax, aebooth37 and Change100 for making the money, such as it was.

Me? Where did I end up?

Bubble Girl again. But it was so much fun, I think we'll have to do it again next week.

Riverchasers #7

I had a pretty ok day, involving a high school volleyball tournament (we lost 5 of 6 matches, but had some laughs so it's all good), driving in snow after the snow tires had been taken off for the season (wheeeeee!) and an excellent dinner at my local fish and chip joint.

I settled in to the Riverchasers game, and played. And what happened next, dear readers, is an example of what happens when you're not really in the right headspace.

I dithered. I second guessed myself. I bet like a spastic. I allowed people to steal my blinds and push me off decent hands. I let myself get bothered by something else. And I went out 44th of 84.

I think the poker gods are letting me know that they're tired of filling in for other things, things I'm missing in my life. I need sleep. I need to get laid. I need to get acquainted with my new bike and go for a ride. I need to go for a walk. I need to read a good book. I need to talk to my family more (the ones I like anyway). I need to explore my city and its neighbourhoods. I need to see something green and growing that isn't potted and in my apartment. I need to clean out my closet. I need to volunteer. I need to eat more vegetables.

I need to stop being such a doofus.

I also need to stop saying "I" so much.

thank you Mookie!

Mookie did up a lovely banner for Friday's game! Come and get your donk on!

Wait, that sounded bad....

Out 12th of 78, when Iak's silly pocket sixes held. In this crowd, 12th is pretty damn ok in my estimation. Pleased with how I played, even the above hand.

Next game I'm going to slip the tournament director some dosh to make sure I'm not seated with Iak again.

Irony of ironies: what took me out of the WWdn in 25th place? AA. I knew he had AA. And I still called him with my JQ s00ted.

Damn those awfukkits. Why do they hit at the most inopportune moments?

Well I'm two for two in terms of missing online games I wanted to play, the BritBloggerment on Sunday and the MATH tonight, the first installment of the Battle of the Bloggers.

But I don't really regret missing them. Judging by the way I feel today, I needed yesterday's torture ... errr therapeutic massage. Damn, it's good to be able to look over my shoulders again!

And tonight I headed west to Tayler and Tawny's for their Monday home game. I've missed too many of these games, and had forgotten how much fun they are. I bubbled tonight (d'oh!) but it's cool as T+T not only paid my buyin as my birthday present but tossed in a raspberry martini too. Poker and booze .... god I love my friends *grins.

And on that note I'm off to bed. I need to be well rested so that I can remain civil to the civil servants at the Ministry of Transportation office tomorrow as I get my drivers license renewed and my bike's license plates transferred from my old '85 Viroago 750 to the spiffy new-ish 1100. If past experience is any indication, the phrases "Are you fucking kidding me?" and "What fresh hell is this?" will be muttered like a mantra for the cranky and put-upon.

weekend

This has been a very, very, very, very good weekend.

The matinee show of Rocky Horror Show was funny and wild and a helluva lot of fun.

Dinner at Perigee was sublime. We opted for the 4 course blind tasting menu...words fail.

All day Hunny Bunny had been taunting me with little gifts bearing the notation "This is a cool gift, but is it THE cool gift?". When we got home after the restaurant, he made me wait in the car "just one second, I have to go up first and set up the big present".

Let me state for the record, that I was pretty damn happy with everything over the course of the day. He had gone overboard with the little gifts (we're not big present givers...one small thing and a good dinner is par for the course on these occasions), and I was feeling pretty spoiled.

As I was sitting in the car wondering how much longer I was going to have to wait (the rental on the liquids I had drank needed to be paid soon) I could hear this noise, sounded like japanese car with a riced-up exhaust. Then Hunny Bunny rode up on one of these:

I am the very proud (and still very shell-shocked) new owner of a 1997 Yamaha Virago 1100. In black (of course). With Givi hard luggage (so no more fiddling about with canvas saddlebags and raincovers!).

Holy. Shit. I'm stunned. Stunned, I tell you!

*****

Today was a lazy day... I went for brunch with my pal Su and then headed for a massage. About ten minutes in I remembered the BritBloggerment 2 that I'd signed up for. But after really good massage I'm not inclined to run around; I got home and logged in just mere moments after getting blinded out. D'oh!

Actually, I probably did better than if I'd actually played *grin.
